Be it David Lee, the Olympic Gold Medalist, P V Sindhu
, the Olympic Silver Medalist or our very own U man, Ronnie Screwala, who were present on the opening day in
different roles will agree, Volleyball in India has the Thrill to turn the Indian sports lovers crazy.
The unique scoring system, house-full spectators, bright lights, music, excellent camera positioning and harmonious
fusion of Indian and foreign players has enough potential to make the
league popular in India.
Verdict
Day I – Kochi
Blue Spikers vs U Mumba
# The way Ukkra Pandian, the setter of Kochi, managed to bring out the best in his players specially David Lee, truly deserves a round
of applause. For the setter combining with the foreign players was perhaps the
toughest task but Pandian made it seamless and perfect. Hats off to him, truly
deserves the best player award.
U Mumba actually lost the match in the 2nd set when
the score was 12-12. It would have been other way round had they not made those
unforced errors. What Ukkra Pandian managed in the beginning of the match for
Kochi, U Mumba setter took time until it was 4-0.
Overall there
were some extraordinary blocks , backline attack and defence from both the team.
Manu Joseph, of Kochi made his presence
felt on the ground with some terrific block and attack. This scoring system is definitely a treat for the spectators but there will be much pressure for the
players.
Thank you Rupay, Peter England, Bank of Baroda, #My
Team11, Nippon paint, Gold Gym and all others who have contributed in making this league
possible. Special thanks to Sony, Baseline and VFI for bringing Volleyball live to our bedroom.
This February we will wait for 7PM…!
Signing off:
All the best.. Congratulations
